The Banner Size Guide: Readable From Right Where It Matters

The golden rule: 1 inch per 10 feet

Every 1 inch of letter height buys you roughly 10 feet of comfortable reading distance. Roadside banner read from 150 feet? Your headline needs 15-inch letters. Sidewalk table banner read from 10 feet? 1–2 inch letters are plenty.

The workhorse sizes

• 2×4 ft — tables, indoor walls, small storefronts.
• 3×6 ft — the all-purpose classic: fences, booths, storefronts.
• 4×8 ft — roadside visibility, building sides, events.
• 3×2 ft vertical — retractable stands for lobbies and trade shows.

Material matters

13oz scrim vinyl is the indoor/outdoor standard — waterproof, grommeted, tough. Heavier blockout vinyl stops light bleed-through for double-sided or backlit spots. Mesh vinyl lets wind pass through for fences and windy sites.

• Six words or fewer in the headline.
• Massive contrast — dark on light or light on dark, never busy photos behind text.
